911 Pennsylvania Crash

9/11: Flight 93 Crashes in Shanksville, Pennsylvania

NPR Politics Podcast On Sept. 11th

Live Coverage of the 20th Anniversary

On the morning of September 11, 2001, part of Flight 93 crashed on the land of Gordon Felt in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The plane was one of four hijacked by terrorists that day. The passengers and crew of Flight 93 fought back against the hijackers, and the plane crashed before reaching its intended target in Washington, D.C.

The crash of Flight 93 was a tragic event that resulted in the deaths of all 40 passengers and crew members. However, the actions of the passengers and crew prevented the hijackers from carrying out their plan to attack the U.S. Capitol Building or the White House.

In the years since the crash of Flight 93, the crash site has become a memorial to the victims. The Flight 93 National Memorial Park was dedicated in 2011, and it features a visitor center and a memorial wall with the names of the victims.

The 20th anniversary of the September 11th attacks will be commemorated on September 11, 2021. The Flight 93 National Memorial Park will hold a special ceremony to remember the victims of the crash.
