Dennis Hauger wins dramatic F2 sprint race in Baku

After a thrilling race weekend in Baku, Dennis Hauger has taken the victory in the F2 sprint race

Dennis Hauger of Prema Racing put in a brilliant drive to win the Formula 2 sprint race in Baku and snatch the lead of the championship. The Norwegian driver started from fifth on the grid but made a great start to move into third place. He then passed Jehan Daruvala for second on lap three and set off after race leader Liam Lawson.

Lawson was driving well out in front, but Hauger was closing the gap lap by lap. On lap 12, Hauger finally made his move, passing Lawson into Turn 1. Once in front, Hauger was able to control the race and take the victory.

Lawson takes second ahead of Iwasa

Liam Lawson of Carlin finished in second place after losing out to Hauger late in the race. The New Zealander drove a strong race and was in contention for the win until the final few laps.

Ayumu Iwasa finished behind Lawson in third place. The DAMS driver made a good start and ran in the top three for the majority of the race.

Daruvala drops to third in the championship

Jehan Daruvala of Prema Racing was unable to extend his championship lead in Baku after finishing in fourth place. The Indian driver dropped down to third in the championship, behind Hauger and Lawson.

Richard Verschoor (Trident) was fifth, followed by Logan Sargeant (Carlin) in sixth and Frederik Vesti (ART Grand Prix) in seventh.

Zhou and Doohan retire

Guan Yu Zhou of UNI-Virtuosi and Jack Doohan of Virtuosi Racing both retired from the race with technical problems.
